We live in deeply troubled times. Hovering above everything is the threat of a devastating global war. You, and many millions of other Earth citizens, must think now and then, “Can anything effectively be done to shift our historical trajectory into a positive direction? Are we hopelessly trapped in an existential downward spiral? What, if anything, can save us from ourselves?”
Lying at the heart of Project Enduring Peace is a vision that has been called by a simple name: “Peace System.” It is a vision of the people of Earth, from all nations, living side by side in all their grand diversity, and doing so in peace.
A brief 8.5-minute video produced by a team led by anthropologist Douglas Fry introduces the peace system concept. It provides numerous illustrations. It shares the results of years of research on groups of people of all sorts, from indigenous tribes to European nation states, showing how it is that they came to stop making war among themselves. What was the first step they took to begin the change? And importantly in addition, the video highlights six traits all such peace systems share that are key to making sure their peace agreement lasts over time. This is the vision PEP offers to Earth’s citizens: knowledge that fashioning a peace system that will free us from the grotesque behavior of war is possible and how we can do it. If you have not already done so, watch the video now.
Fundamentally, PEP is an ambitious advocacy and educational campaign
to offer a realistic, urgently needed vision of what an “Earth Peace System” that would usher in a future without international warfare might look like,
to counter the defeatist, erroneous belief that ending war isn’t possible,
to unite through a petition a critical mass of global citizens who believe wars between nations needs to end, a people-power mass sufficiently large enough to pressure all relevant leaders to take up the treaty-making process.
PEP will work as long as it takes to get global leaders to the peace table. A peace treaty created and ratified is the second and founding step in the process of fashioning a peace system for planet Earth. The first step is for a critical mass of global leaders and citizens to decide to do it. We have written several pages which will allow you to learn on your own what motivates PEP and how you can be part of this huge effort. Much of what you would do in support can be done in day-to-day conversations with family, friends, and whomever you contact, simply telling them about “peace systems” and that there is a petition online that they can sign that urges world leaders to take the first step to creating one for our entire human community. The first thing you can docan be done very quickly from the comfort of your own home--use your computer or cell phone and sign the petition. 🙂 When you have worked your way through this website, you will be informed—if you will pardon a military expression, you will be armed—with sufficient information for yourself and even enough information to introduce Project Enduring Peace (PEP) to others who would love for us to end warfare. Assuming you’ve watched the peace systems video, it's time to move on to Take Action.
