Nonviolent Activists and Influential Friends End the British Slave Trade
Amazing Grace – this film about the struggle to end the British slave trade illustrates how tireless, sustained efforts of unswerving nonviolent activists combined with the good will of highly placed influential friends in government can work together to achieve a desire end. At the time of filming this is the kind of action being mounted by such movements as Ploughshares Fund, Global Zero, Alliance for a Nuclear Free World, Women's Action for New Directions (WAND) and others. They, too, had a powerful friend in government, viz. the U.S. President Barack Obama who has opening advocated the reduction and elimination of nuclear weapons. Unfortunately for the world community, the President that succeeded him was a man without such vision and an opportunity for success in eliminating nuclear weapons became sidetracked.
