The Carter Center The Democracy Program works to build democratic institutions and inclusive societies worldwide, helping people have a meaningful voice in how they are governed. Freedom House A non-profit, nonpartisan organization. Freedom is possible only in democratic political systems in which governments are accountable to their people; the rule of law prevails; and freedoms of expression, association, belief and respect for the rights of minorities and women are guaranteed. We support nonviolent civic initiatives in societies where freedom is denied or under threat and we stand in opposition to ideas and forces that challenge the right of people to be free. International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) Created in 1995, an intergovernmental organization with member states from all continents. Has a mandate to support sustainable democracy worldwide. IDEA operates at an interface between those who analyse and monitor trends in democracy and those who engage directly in political reform or act in support of democracy at home and abroad. Works with new and long-established democracies. It operates at international, regional and national level, working in partnership with a range of institutions.
League of Women Voters A nonpartisan political organization founded in 1920. Seeks to improve government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy. A unique decentralized structure, a grassroots organization, working in all 50 states at the national, state and local levels. The League neither supports nor opposes candidates but at the same time is wholeheartedly political and works to influence policy through advocacy.
National Democratic Institute Working to strengthen and expand democracy worldwide. Calling on a global network of volunteer experts, NDI provides practical assistance to civic and political leaders advancing democratic values, practices and institutions. NDI works with democrats in every region of the world to build political and civic organizations, safeguard elections, and to promote citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.
The Open Society Institute (OSI) A private operating and grantmaking foundation, aims to shape public policy to promote democratic governance, human rights, and economic, legal, and social reform. On a local level, OSI implements initiatives to support the rule of law, education, public health, and independent media. Also works to build alliances across borders and continents on issues such as combating corruption and rights abuses. A project of George Soros.
Students for Global Democracy – Uganda Students for Global Democracy – Uganda is a students led not-for-profit and non-partisan organization which inspires young people, principally students to adopt to the culture of leadership. good governance and sustainability, to effectively enable them participate in the democratic process and sustainable development of their country and the outside world.
