Arms Control Association
National nonpartisan membership organization promoting public understanding of effective arms control policies. Public education. Media programs. Magazine, Arms Control Today (ACT). Provides policy-makers, the press and the public in the U.S. and abroad with authoritative information, analysis and commentary on arms control proposals, negotiations and agreements, and related national security issues.
The Boston Consortium on Gender, Security, and Human Rights
To bring knowledge about gender and security to bear on the quest to end armed conflicts and build sustainable peace. Our role is twofold: to foster the development of new knowledge about gender, armed conflict, and security; and to help bridge the gap between the scholarly research community on the one hand, and policy makers and practitioners on the other. Center for Advanced Defense Studies - C4ADS
A non-profit NGO in Washington, D.C. that engages in high-risk/ high-payoff projects of global significance. Interdisciplinary teams from government, military, academia and the private sector work to solve the security problems of today and examine the defense issues of tomorrow. Many areas of focus, including cyber security and information assurance, counter-terrorism and global security policy, cognitive informatics. Their Innovation for Peace Endowment promotes peace, human rights, and democratization through transnational communications and conflict resolution. Numerous articles.
The Century Foundation
A nonprofit research institution premised on the belief that a mix of effective government, open democracy, and free markets has been the key to growth and prosperity. Produce publications and convene events that (1) analyze public issues in plain language, (2) provide facts and opinions about policy strategies, and (3) develop distinctive ideas that can work. Strpmg focus on four broad domestic and international challenges: 1) the rise of economic inequality and financial risk for American families; 2) the consequences of an aging population; 3) the evolution of policies to respond to terrorism--and to preserve civil liberties; and 4) the enhancement of America's role as a cooperative leader.
Federation of American Scientists
Addresses a broad spectrum of national security issues in carrying out its mission to promote humanitarian uses of science and technology. Expanded policy activities address critical challenges in housing, energy and education. Blogs on a variety of subjects.
Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF)
Established by the Swiss government in October 2000. Works with governments and civil society to strengthen democratic and civilian control of security sector organizations such as police, intelligence agencies, border security services, paramilitary forces, and armed forces. To implement its objectives: 1) conducts research to identify the central challenges in democratic governance of the security sector, and to collect practices best suited to meet these challenges and 2) provides support through advisory programs and practical work assistance to interested parties, most commonly to governments, parliaments, military authorities, and international organizations. An international foundation with 48 Member States.

Reliable military news and information. Topics covered include Military, WMD, Intelligence, Homeland Security, and Space. This site is a cornucopia of articles and news. The philosophy is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts. The site works to provide the facts from a wide variety of sources, encouraging visitors to then obtain the original documents and/or talk to the authors before depending too heavily on a particular piece of information.
Global Zero
A growing chorus of world leaders are calling for the elimination of all nuclear weapons, including Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Barack Obama. GZ will support these leaders by combining high-level policy work with global public outreach to achieve a comprehensive agreement to eliminate all nuclear weapons worldwide through phased and verified reductions. GZ is developing a step-by-step plan for the phased elimination of nuclear weapons.
Henry L. Stimson Center
Offers practical, nonpartisan, creative solutions to the problems of national and international security. Institute for Inclusive Security
The Institute for Inclusive Security, including The Women Waging Peace Network, advocates for the full participation of all stakeholders, especially women, in peace processes.  Creating sustainable peace is achieved best by a diverse, citizen-driven approach.  Of the many sectors of society currently excluded from peace processes, none is large - or more critical to success - than women.
Institute On Global Conflict and Cooperation - The University of California
Facilitates research into the causes of international conflict and cooperation and serving the entire UC system, IGCC's multi-campus structure allows it to build research teams from all ten campuses and the UC-managed Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories, providing broad-based links to the U.S. and foreign governments, and policy institutes from around the globe. Main offices: at UC San Diego. Educating the next generation of international problem-solvers and peacemakers. One of the largest U.S. sources of dissertation and fellowship support on international studies.
International Action Network on Small Arms
A global movement against gun violence - a network of 800 civil society organizations working in 120 countries to stop proliferation and misuse of small arms and light weapons (SALW). Seeks to secure stronger regulation on guns in society and better controls on arms exports. Represents the voices of civil society on the international stage, for example in the UN process on small arms.
Liveable World
Main goal is to eliminate weapons of mass destruction--nuclear, chemical, biological. Provide information to Senators who must vote on related legislation.
Nuclear Age Peace Foundation
To educate and advocate for peace and a world free of nuclear weapons and to empower peace leaders.
Stockholm International Peace Research Institute
An independent research institute focusing on international security, arms control, and disarmament. Has a reputation for authoritative, balanced research, including its flagship publication, the SIPRI Yearbook. Nnamed as one of the world’s leading think tanks in the ‘Think Tank Index’ issued by the journal Foreign Policy.
Women in International Security – WIIS – Georgetown University
WIIS is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization dedicated to increasing the influence of women in foreign and defense affairs by raising their numbers and visibility, while enhancing dialogue on international security issues. WIIS offers a comprehensive set of programs designed to foster and promote women in all fields related to international security, and in a variety of sectors.
